I have promised a journal entry on the wonderful McCartney concert I attended with my older son, Alex, on Sunday last.  My mood is a bit dampened by the horrible news about Robin Williams.  Dear, sweet man.  About 20 years ago I sat in the next table to him at the Comedy Club on the Sunset Strip while Billy Crystal was doing an impromptu routine.  I had come to watch an old friend of mine from high school, and was rewarded by getting to see Billy and also speak briefly to Robin.  BTW, he laughed the hardest and cheered the loudest in the whole audience for all of the comedians.  He was such a generous soul.  I shyly  told him how much I loved his work.  I didn't ask for autographs.  You don't do that in LA if you're a native in "the know".  I don't know why.  We think it is beneath us or something.  Anyway, that night he was only drinking water.  When he was speaking to me he was listening with his whole face - his eyes, his eyebrows, his mouth - everything.  It was maybe a 30 second exchange, but I've never forgotten how kind and generous he was to me and to those other comedians.  He was equally pleasant with all the other audience members who approached him that night.  What a prince among men.  So very very tragic.  RIP Robin Williams.

Now that I have succeeded in reducing us all to tears, here's my way of cheering you all up.  My journal is....

HERE !!!!! )
There was a lot of trouble getting an Angelino audience into the stadium on time.  We're not the most prompt denizens of a city in the world.  It was well after 8 p.m. (the start time) and the stadium was still not full.   But then, Joe Walsh, his wife Marjorie Bach, Ringo's wife Barbara Bach, and Jeff Lynne all arrived to sit 2 rows behind us just as the show was going to start.  It happened so fast we only got a fuzzy picture of Joe Walsh.  Jeff Lynne sat down so fast and disappeared in the crowd.  Sadly, no photo of him.

ANYWAY....

HERE WE ARE AGAIN )
So this third chapter is a little shorter:  Later, I will try to figure out how to add the 13 songs' snippets that Alex filmed with his phone.  In the meantime, here are the still photos.

Let It Be audience response

The audience reacts to Let It Be.  So beautiful.

Yesterday

Yesterday - All my troubles seemed so far away, now it seems they're here to stay...because Paul was near the end.  And worse than that, Alex's camera batteries died, so no more pictures of the last few songs including an incredibly driving (bass was hitting my chest!) Helter Skelter. And Golden Slumbers/The End.    And then it really was over.

Bye bye

Bye bye Paul.   (Sob)

As soon as I can figure out how to post the videos Alex filmed - there are about 13 songs!  (Just snippets of each song, but they give you a sense of what it is like if you aren't able to see him perform on the Out There tour.  As soon as I figure it out, I will post.

By the way ---  here is a photo of my baby Alex, who did all this fine photography, who is hipper than hip, who is in the industry, who does marathons, and Ironman contests, who has his own business, a degree in chemistry from UC Berkeley, and who is my FIRST BORN, and who is a huge Beatle and now McCartney fan ----
